MOHS Surgery
Mohs micrographic surgery or MMS is a highly specialized and effective technique to treat skin cancers. MMS is specially performed for skin cancers located on the head and neck. It is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, on local anesthesia. Initially, a layer or stage is removed and brought to the laboratory for examination of all margins under the microscope. If there are abnormal cells seen under the microscope, another layer of tissue is removed and again sent to the laboratory for examination. These steps are repeated until a cancer-free plane is achieved. Closure and reconstruction of the surgical wound will depend on the size, depth and location of the defect. Read More
